Sanwo-Olu Bags “Best Nigerian Governor In Internal Audit Transformation” ~Omonaijablog

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has been named the “Best Nigerian Governor in Internal Audit Transformation” by the Institute of Internal Auditors of Nigeria.

 

The Award is in appreciation and recognition of the Governor’s significant transformation of the internal audit function in the State.

 

Receiving the Award on behalf of the Governor, at the 2021 National Conference of the Institute of Internal Auditors held today in Lagos, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, noted that the Administration considers auditors as strategic partners in the discharge of the responsibilities to the public. He said the State Government had to re-engineer the service delivery model being used in the face of changes occasioned by the COVID-19 Pandemic.

 

He said there was a need for Internal Auditors to re-invent their role especially in the face of cloud computing where the data Centre is outside the country and Artificial Intelligence is controlling operations.

 

While urging the Institute to initiate various training programme that will enable members to effectively undertake their responsibilities, Sanwo-Olu cited the impact of Covid-19 to include lifestyle and value systems changes that have negated the tenured job security due to technology advancements.

 

Stating also that the State Government as an employer of labour, “had to re-engineer our service delivery model to ensure that our public service delivery systems remain top notch, Sanwo-Olu noted the Administration is committed to professionalism of its workforce.

 

Earlier in his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, Institute of Internal Auditors, Nigeria, Mr. Humphrey Okorie, stated that the theme of the conference, ‘Navigating Uncertainties’ was strategically chosen to get members into the right frame of mind and set the ball rolling in proffering solutions for effectively navigating the many uncertainties in Organisations or places of work professionally”.

 

He added that the conference is another opportunity to bring members to the table by means of the kind of value that they provide to help Organisations navigate through the maze of uncertainties.

 

Similarly, the Board of Chairman, Mrs. Vivian Agu urged the Institute to be guided by a matrix of what they know in places that they do not know and the ability to prognosticate demands on the professions and urbanizations.

She noted that in order to survive in this changing world, internal auditors must occasionally set aside some time to think and project into the future.

 

While clamouring for the increment of sustainability for the government, organization, popular thinking and growth of cyber sphere as a new frontier, Mrs. Agu noted that Nigeria ranked 168 out of 176 countries in the global ESG index of 2020.   

 

She noted that Environmental, Social and Governance standards are the key criteria in measuring the performance and sustainability of a nation and we are in dire need of foreign investors.
