Re: Zamfara’s Ship Without Rudder! By Gbenga Shaba ~Omonaijablog

By Gbenga Shaba
VP Osinbajo and President Buhari

Ordinarily I won't have replied the opinion piece written by one Suleman Tukura, who called himself a public affairs commentator based in Samaru, Gusau, the Zamfara capital, but I want him to know that the greatest tragedy in life when you don't know and you failed to see someone to enlighten you. (Shaba Gbenga 2021)

Suleman Tukura writes on what he called the rudderless leadership in the northwest state on the watch of Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle, its not a far fect fact that he is not only one of those individual who never believed that anything god can come from Zamfara State until Governor Bello Matawalle decided to align with the ruling All Progressive Party.

Still quoting from the portion of Henri Fayol's 14 Principles of Management that Suleman Tukura quoted, looking at governance from a managerial lens of Henri Fayol's 14 Principles of Management number twelve and thirteen (12 & 13): "stability of tenure of personnel and initiative.

"Stability of tenure of personnel is a principle which states that for an organization to run smoothly and achieve its short and long terms objectives, personnel (managerial personnel) most especially must not frequently enter and exit the organization. Consequently, an organisation must take steps to obtain as much stability in its management and workforce as possible. Change and disruptions are often expensive in both time and resources." That is why it is very important to take a look at the continuous peace initiative being propounded by Governor Matawalle's administration.

Those who are criticizing Governor Matawalle's leadership style were either not in Nigeria from 1999 till date, beret of ideas, blind or unjustifiably being jealous of all his achievements.

Upon taking the mantle of leadership as the Executive Governor of Zamfara State on the 29th of May 2019, His Excellency Bello Mohammed MoN (Matawallen Maradun), did not waste time in indicating his interest and passion in restoring peace to the state, transforming the economy of the state and creating a conducive atmosphere for investment, business development and partnerships for the state and prospective foreign and local investors.

His Excellency Governor Bello Matawalle swung into action, setting machineries in motion to enable him achieve his vision, by quickly establishing the Investment and Public Private Partnership Directorate, and appointing a Special Adviser to head the Directorate.
The truth is that the vision and investment ideas of the Governor is yielding the desired fruit as the Investment Directorate has become very busy attracting various investments to the state as well as investing the resources of Zamfara State in profitable Real Estate investments in the Capital City of Nigeria, Abuja and Kaduna, that serves as the Headquarters of Northwestern region.

That Zamfara State Government under the current dispensation in February 2020 created additional three ministries which brought the total number of ministries in the state to 22, one year and four months later between March and April 2021 there was a partial cabinet reshuffling, and the directorate of humanitarian affairs was upgraded to full-fledged ministry. There was also major redeployment of permanent secretaries in February and August 2021 respectively. Furthermore, there was the sacking of special advisers and director-generals as well as the reinstatement of some in June 2021. There was the dissolution of all political appointments including executive council members and reappointment of some in August 2021. All these happened within the span of one year five months from the date of their first appointment, just to have the best hands in the administration of the gold-rich state.

Zamfara State that was in the news for all the wrong reasons in the past has now transformed to a safe haven with investors flooding in like never before, a thing that never happened in the past with any administration in the State.
The success being recorded by Governor Bello Matawalle is not far connected to the fact that His Excellency is an all-rounder and a man on a mission to change the narrative in Zamfara State in terms of providing adequate infrastructures, and developmental projects in the education, health and economic sector of the State.
Today Governor Bello Matawalle has been able to provide the State with most of the social basic amenities such as clean water, good roads, electricity and affordable healthcare in the State capital, local government areas and all the 147 wards in the state.

Furthermore, on 2nd December 2020, Economic Management Team was inaugurated with a mandate to turn around the economy of the state, despite the fact that Governor Bello Matawalle met an empty treasury and accumulated debt to the tune of 350 billion naira when he came into power, he still manages to set aside resources for investment out of the meager Federal allocation the state receives monthly.

The Investment Directorate under my stewardship has been able to make investments in properties worth a little above 10 billion naira, and gold deposits worth 2 billion naira, so the total investment made by the Directorate amounts to the tune of 12.035 billion naira under one and a half year, and we are still negotiating to acquire more properties for the state so as to increase the Internal Generated Revenue.

The issue of banditry arose because of the lacklustre performance of the successive administrations in the state and became worse during the regime of the former Governor Abdulaziz Yari that he had to relocate from the state to Abuja, thereby abandoning Zamfara citizens to their fate.

Therefore, the position of Matawalle's administration is very clear which is a carrot and stick approach to the dialogue and peace process. Those who refuse to accept the peace process and those who renege on it are squarely being faced with the wrath of the law.
