LAGFERRY Declares 40,041 Trucks Bay, Projects 400,080 Passengers In Year 2021 ~Omonaijablog

Managing Director, Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) Mr. Abdulbaq Lad-Balogun has 
unveiled the Lagferry activities for the year 2021 while urged the staff to stay committed to sail drive with mission to commute 400,080 passengers through the Inland waterways on daily basis in the year 2021,  the vision in building for a greater Lagos     

Speaking at Strategic Management Workshop Theme: "Resilient Sailing For Sustainable Economic" on Saturday at the Mile 2 Terminal Amowu Odofin, Lagos, the MD Lagferry said to reviewed the achievement of year 2020 of lagferry operation with a view to reposition Lagferry for the challenges ahead in the year 2021 and beyond, in other to develop a resilient operational system for the lagferry services and the entire state.

According to him, "the mandate given to us by Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to move 30% of Lagosians commuters by the waterways in order to decongest roads and this particular mission, 400,080 passengers are expected on the Inland waterways of Lagos State on a daily basis. 400,080 passengers represents 30% of 1.6 million commuters on a daily basis and 30% of them most come from the waterways  the journey commerce now."

Mr. Lad-Balogun emphasized that this is a stride and task as responsibility and challenges before us for the new era 2021.  This is to show serious commitment and coming together for a strategic  management treaty as resil nt sailing for a sustainable economy.        

Lagferry boss, noted that the transport system is in line with the theme agenda of Mr. Governorthemedjide Olushola Sanwo-olu, by creating an instant Alternative and decongest Lagos roads with intermodal transportation system took instant shapes as Lagosians took to water transportation.

 Lagferry also provides operational services to industrial companies who are fast shorting down factories and throwing the workforce into the labour force , as the agency labor state government has created an enabling safety environment to transport the people and encouraged cargo of businesses to Lagos state on waterways. With these renovative ideas, businesses keep flouting as a logistic solution to major refinery companies.
He said: I want to be emphatically to say that the Dangote Sugar Refinery, BUA Sugar Refinery in Apapa, FlourMils, Honeywell  FlourMils, Roan and others industrial operating within the Apapa axis , Lagferry Services has bee to keep them flow in the business and their manufacturing concerning ongoing because of the logistic solutions offers to bays operation through inland waterways of Lagos state from Mile 2 terminal and Badore terminal Ajay Eti-Osa.

Despite unprecedented destruction of  novel coronavirus pandemic which necessitated some months of lockdown, which affected our operation would have able to moved 41,040 trucks in bays from terminal of Mile2 to Badore the Ajay, transport 2,308 cleared goods containers  from the port, 949 contain s also bays from Mile 2 Terminal to Apapa port Island and Tin Can Island port. with this 284 direct and indirect job created within a year commencement of operation on logistic services, said Lad-Balogun.  

"The commercial operation and our journey to ensure Lagos state populace are transported  by the waterway in addition to all Almighty roads transportation with procurement and commissioning of 8 new of the act boats in Badore-Ajay. The agency commenced 6 major routes expansion operational services includes; Epe, Agbowa-Ikosi, Agbara, Ibeju-Lekki, Ojo, in Ayobo-Ipaja, Alimosho Local Government  by Governor Babajide Sanwo lu in February 2020, by deploying all the available 12 passenger boats immediately after the launch on 6th of February 2020 which contributes 38% of the water transportation  index to the entire transport rotation matrix to the state GDP economy from 0.2% to 0.8% in the year 2020 and our theme high premium to safety and achieving accident-free record through the accident-federation year for 2020". 

He further revealed that daily average daily passengers converged on the waterways and Lagos State Ferry Services (LAFERRY) has succeeded  in commuting over 60, 000  passengers on commercial service while total of 3,857 persons on cha arter services to different part of the state an either for pleasure, recreation or for business meetings. In all, recorded in the last one year, in water transportation operations by commuting over 200, 000 people within first 150 days of operation the under the present administration 

In his keynote address Chief Resilience Officer, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO) traced the history of Lagos state since reception, saying the state in the face of challenges , right from its creation I 1967 and possible challenges it might face in the future due to its peculiarities.

According to him, Lagos State has been recognized as one of the 100 resilient cities in the world. This is based on the resilient nature of the state .

Oki while urging the management staff of Lagferry to aware the main objective of the strategic management workshop to come up with a more robust strategic direction that will not only help to build capacity , but enhance the operational efficiency of the agency of government

The state government's huge investment in water transportation is premised on achieving a multimodal transport system that will not help to tackle constant traffic gridlocks in the metropolis, but meet the transport needs of an estimated population of over 26 million  people in the emerging smart city of Lagos.

Chief Resilient Officer, commends the Management efforts of Lagferry for thinking outside the box and recognizing that a trained and well-focused workforce is crucial to achieving a 21st-century water transportation 21st-century is safe, secure, and adds value to the socio-eco, nomic growth of the state.

He said: the workshop is to build capacity of our workforce in the  Lagferry, so as to increase their production professional competency and enhance once their efficiency in public service delivery in water transportation
