'Heavens Come Down' As Ediomo Akpan Wins Hymnodia Season 2 In Grandstyle ~Omonaijablog


In an atmosphere of great melodic voices and instruments, Ediomo Akpan, Hymntestant number 9 has won the season 2 edition of the Hymnodia 2020.

Also known as the Puppet Master, Ediomo edged the other three finalists who fought for the ultimate prize of the highly coveted Asaph trophy. 

The victory was announced as Hymnodia Season 2 ended with the Hymncert on Sunday 13th September 2020.

The unique TV reality show which started on Sunday March 8 2020 with 15 hymntestants (contestants) vying for the ultimate crown produced a heaven on earth Hymncert performances from the final four.

At the final on Sunday, five Hymntestants; Duke Asuquo, Frank Okoye, Yinka Odunayo, Ediomo Akpan and Json Ikpeama, were all jostling for four slots at the final until voting results from GBC Consults revealed that the last woman standing, Yinka Odunayo and Json Ikpeama will slug it out for a single slot at the final with their fates now in the hands of the Judges.

After a song each, all three Judges voted for Yinka Odunayo who joined other hymntestants in the final.

And going into the final round (Stanza 12); Ediomo who is famous for putting his style into every performance to deliver a flawless rendition wowed the audience and was adjudged the deserved winner. 

Frank Okoye was declared the third runner up, Yinka Odunayo, second runner up while Duke Asuquo won the first runner up award respectively.

As season 2 Hymnodia winner, Ediomo went home with the Asaph Trophy, N5million cash prize and a brand new car.

Ediomo came into Hymnodia Season 2 as an underdog. The puppet master as he is called, eventually came out as the ultimate Hymndian going into the final day without being on probation for a day.
A tenor singer, he has a unique blend of tenor, “sweet” tone and with the ability to blend both classical and contemporary music. He has a dramatic voice coupled with his usual comical yet excellent delivery in all his performances.

He also got best performance award in two stanzas. During the Hymncert, he was the first to be called into the top three.

A graduate of the ABRSM Advanced Chorale Singing program, Ediomo has sung in several choirs over the past 9 years. He is a pseudo-polyglot, he speaks English, Spanish and his native language Annang. An Akwa Ibom-born, Lagos-bred soloist with proficiency on the classical flute, he is a chorister at the House On The Rock Church, Lekki, Lagos. His favourite hymn is A Mighty Fortress is our God. Ediomo is Tenor.

Hymntestants for the Hymnodia 2020 were drawn from various denominations and States in Nigeria. Catholics, Presbyterian, Pentecostals, Anglican and Celestial Churches all had representatives.
