Why Young Film Makers Are Showering Encomium On Igbinedion University VC, Ezemonye

Igbinedion University Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, is the man of the moment among young film makers in Niger-Delta region presently.

The renowned Professor who specializes in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Forensics, until his recent appointment was at the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, University of Benin, Nigeria, with over 30 years' experience in research and teaching, is currently doing what non of his predecessors never did.

Few days ago, the astute Professor gave free working permission to three young but dynamic movie producers, who excelled at the just concluded Film in Edo Project Initiative that was sponsored by the Edo State Government and Market Development in Niger Delta (MADE) who funded the filmmaking competition, permission to use facilities of the higher institution free of charge.

Professor Ezemonye didn't only gave free access, he provided these budding filmmakers free accommodation in his personal executive lodge at the Igbinedion University campus. The suite which has more than 8 deluxe rooms with all basic amenities and 24 hours power supply, parking lodge, conference room size sitting room and kitchens, he said was part of the little ways he intends to support creativity and young African ingenuity.

Not done, Professor Ezemonye, also directed that all Theatre Arts students of the school should visit the movie locations being used in and around Okada for first-hand practical training.

He equally encouraged Chairman of Ovia North East Local Government Area, Mr Scott Ogbemudia, who is the Chairman of the host communities of these filmmakers to show them all the necessary supports and also provide adequate security for them throughout the period of their movie production.

Three selected movies will be shot on locations at Okada village. These three movies are part of the 10 winning movie scripts to be shot in Edo State this year at the just concluded Edo State, Pitch-Win And Shot Competition.

Veteran Nollywood Filmmaker, Ambassador Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, who co-founded the Benin Film Academy in partnership with Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, is the director of the movies which will feature over 1000 upcoming and established actors, actresses, custumiers, producers and technical crews all within Edo State.
