Couple, Son, 3 Others Die In Ogun, Katsina Crashes

A couple, said to be returning to Lagos from a trip to their hometown in Enugu State, died in a road crash on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in the Sagamu area of Ogun State.
The couple were travelling with their children in a black Honda CRV, marked KRD 933 DD when the incident happened.

According to the Federal Road Safety Commission, the husband and wife died at the accident scene while one of their three sons died at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
The remains of the crash victims were deposited in the morgue of the same hospital.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr. Clement Oladele, said the Honda CRV ran into a moving DAF truck with number plate, JJJ107XD, from the rear.

He believed the accident could be due to speeding on the part of the deceased driver.
Oladele, who said the accident occurred around 2pm on Monday, also explained that the FRSC had contacted the family of the deceased from one of the contacts on the telephone recovered at the crash scene.

He said, “We are still expecting them. We learnt the couple and their children were returning from a trip to their home state in Enugu.”
Oladele appealed to motorists to always observe speed limit while driving on the highway, urging private vehicle operators to install speed limiters in their vehicles to check speeding.
He stated, “They should realise that their trip to wherever they are going is not yet complete until they return to their stations safely.

“I want to recommend speed limiters to those private car owners who cannot control their speed while at the wheel.”
Meanwhile, the FRSC said on Monday that at least three persons died in another crash along the Malumfashi-Funtua Road in the Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Katsina State, Alhaji Abdu Bagadawa, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the accident occurred at Karfi village on Monday.

He said the crash involved a Volkswagen bus with number plate KTU 203 AA with 15 passengers on board.
Bagadawa explained that the vehicle skidded off the road into the bush when the driver attempted to dodge a pothole while speeding.

He stated that the three passengers died on the spot while the remaining passengers, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were rushed to Malumfashi General Hospital for medical treatment.
The sector commander urged motorists to desist from speeding and abide by traffic rules and regulations to avoid accident.

He called on motorists, who had yet to install the Speed Limit Device, to do so for the safety of their passengers.
